Lionel Young Band Coming to Montgomery on November 1

The Lionel Young Band, winner of the 2011 International Blues Challenge, will close out the 2016 ARMSchair concert series with a performance November 1 at Kiwanis Park in Old Alabama Town.

Young, a classically trained violin player from Colorado, was the first double champion in the IBC’s history, having won in the solo-duo category in 2008. The band plays original songs, as well as interpretations of blues classics by Willie Dixon, Leadbelly, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Young was born in Rochester, New York, and began violin lessons at the age of six. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Opera-Ballet Orchestra and the National Repertory Orchestra. He has won numerous awards, including the Young Artist Award (Pittsburgh Symphony) and the Concerto Contest (Carnegie-Mellon).

Young has worked with many major artists, including Count Basie, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Paige, Robert Plant, Doc Severenson, Linda Ronstadt, Living Color, Stanley Turrentine, Elvin Bishop, and Kenny Neal.

Gates open at 6:30 p.m., with music beginning at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of great music.
